The navigator went to jail for a few years. After that BC Ferries had two Navigators on duty on the Northern routes. There also should have been alarms if the ship missed it's turn.

I don’t think the Canadians call us guys signallers, perhaps they have a different name for them? yes We have other safety features like TPWS, AWS and SPAD indicators to prevent trains proceeding without authority passed signals at danger.

The ship was headed for shore too long. Only a matter of time the vessel would strike. Clearly the crew at the helm were not paying attention. If they had, The Queen of the North would probably still be sailing and those who perished would be alive today.

Sechelt Rapids has a very tight window to be used for ANY boat movement. There's a cement operation there running 24/7 on the non-road north side. I used to rent the fourth cabin on the north road side from a buddy. When the rapids start to run you do NOT have time to react; looks like the barge made that decision and it's all over fast.
